10:10 And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the
palms of my hands.
11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
A third extreme phrase in that first sentence is “around the globe.” Satan is not a tribal god. His global reach and pervasiveness is stunning. “The whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19). Satan was not bluffing when he said to Jesus, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me” (Luke 4:6). This is why Jesus calls him the “ruler of this world” (John 12:31), and Paul calls him “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4), and this age is called “the present evil age” (Galatians 1:4) and “the domain of darkness” (Colossians 1:13; see also Ephesians 6:12).
